Nervous System Dysfunction

The nervous system is one of the main communication systems of the body, sending messages from the body to the brain and from the brain back to the body.

Think of the nervous system as a city with a network of freeways and highways and roads…

The sensory system tells the brain what’s happening in the environment through sight, smell, hearing, taste, touch, temperature, pain, vibration, pressure, joint and body movement. The brain then responds through the motor and autonomic system carrying the messages to the body and organs of what to do in response to the environment. The body is then constantly fine tuning its activity through feedback systems many times every second.

The challenge is that the nervous system operates just like a hair dryer.

Yes, like a hair dryer that shuts off when it over heats, so too will the body shut down parts or pathways of the nervous system that are getting “too hot” or are under excessive stress. Most of the time this safety switch will reset and information flow and body function will go back to normal. However for some people because of the severity of the event or the duration of the shut down the body will stay “offline” and inhibited. This inhibited state is an injury and can create dysfunction and a variety of symptoms.

When these injuries affect cranial nerve function they may manifest with symptoms such as:

  • loss or altered smell
  • challenges with vision, focus, fatigue and concentration while reading, adapting to bright lights, driving at night
  • balance, dizziness, nausea
  • facial pain or paralysis
  • hearing loss or sensitivities
  • speech, swallowing, digestion, heart rate pressure and rhythm, “fight/flight” dominance
  • chronic tight shoulder, cervical dysfunction, headache and head pain
  • tongue dysfunction

When these injuries affect sensory nerve function they may manifest with symptoms such as:

  • pins & needles, numbness, altered sensations such as “crawling ants”, burning, tightness, abnormal temperatures and pain
  • these injuries affect motor nerve function:
  • weakness, dysfunction, pain.
  • these injuries affect autonomic nerve function:
  • organ dysfunction, indigestion, various states of illness.

When these injuries affect the lobes of the brain they may manifest with symptoms such as:

  • concentration, memory and processing challenges, learning, mood, perception etc

Please note that not everybody responds the same to treatment however treatment is safe, non invasive and we will see results during the very first few sessions.
